Kiln Club Update 10th March 2010
Greetings Kiln Clubbers! (in the voice of Alan Freeman, rest his soul)
The kiln is ready to get hot again. With nothing short of a kiln God’s flare and aplomb, I, under the serene Yoda-like supervision and tutelage of the great Graham Ellerby, laid a nice level bag wall and the new ‘chequered floor’ in the kiln last Friday. And lo, it is good. And yes, there will be fire again in the merry hamlet of Farnham Town. I am not going to go into the reasoning behind the chequered floor etc because I did all that in the last update. Suffice it to say that the kiln is a thing of beauty, albeit of a somewhat shambolic and unprepossessing kind, but a veritable crucible of dreams, for all that.
Actually the kiln still needs a Ceramic Fibre outer lining, then a final insulating layer of common or garden Rockwool roofing insulation. We are going to contain as much heat as we can and ensure that it is thoroughly crack/draft proof in the endeavour to let air in only where we need it.
SO, we shall fire again APRIL 10th, Saturday, beginning at 6am and this time by the Lord Harry we shall reach temperature. Get some biscuited work, STONEWARE, made in advance. I trust this is fair notice. You have your goal…
Gareth.
